Introduction
Right before the end of the year, we publish our third newsletter.
In this newsletter we focus on websites where you can gather information about perfusion and cardiac surgery.
As usual, we give an overview of some relevant articles.
If you have an interesting event, postgraduate meeting or an interesting
article, please contact us.

EBCP recertification
You still have one month to send in your forms for EBCP-recertification.
For flemish, send them to Renate Vlaminck; for french, send them to Dominique Hella.
If you still have questions about this subject, you can always contact the educative committee.

The WWW
In this newsletter we would like to focus on some websites related to the fields of perfusion and cardiothoracic surgery. It's just a small list in which we hope you will find some useful information. Of course, the www is big and this is just the tip of the iceberg, but the journey is so much more pleasant then arriving. So, enjoy surfing!!

MEDLINE ® (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online)
Medline ® is a bibliographic database that contains approximately 13 million references to journal articles in life sciences with a concentration on biomedicine. If you want to know if articles about a certain topic or from a certain author have been published, you have a big chance of finding it here. Citations from approximately 4,800 worldwide journals currently in 30 languages, 40 languages for older journals can be found.
Searches can be saved and – recent feature- email alerts can be installed to inform you about new publications in a topic or author of your interest. Registration at MyNCBI is free and simple.
Medline ® is the primary component of PubMed; a link to PubMed is found on the NLM home page. The result of a MEDLINE/PubMed search is a list of citations (including authors, title, source, and often an abstract) to journal articles and an indication of free electronic full-text availability.

SCIRUS (science-specific search engine)
If you need information on a scientific topic, Scirus filters out the non-scientific webpages.
“Scirus is the most comprehensive science-specific search engine on the Internet. Driven by the latest search engine technology, Scirus searches over 200 million science-specific Web pages
Scirus, a free Web search engine for scientific information, uses sophisticated search technology to create the world’s most comprehensive science-specific index. The Scirus Index is comprised of a unique combination ranging from free Web sources to article databases".

ECCONLINE (Online eLearning)
ECCOnline is a resource on the internet especially for perfusionists. Hosted by Life Systems Medizintechnik-Service, a German, independent perfusion service group. Their goal is: “Educational Purpose for all medical professionals. Further education for practising perfusionist. Special attention is given to Perfusion Students and the European Board Exam preparation. In the near future Educational Medical Questionares will be included.”
This website holds tons of information and is always expanding. A lot of info is still missing, mostly about perfusion technology. Contributions from people in the field are always welcomed.

PERFLINE (“The Largest Directory of Perfusion Resources”)
Similar website as ECCOnline, only more complete on the subject of perfusion technology and also somewhat more structured. Hosted by a Brazilian MD and CCP. It holds the Virtual Textbook of Extracorporeal Technology as well as the Internet Annals of Perfusion Technology (two web resources to links of different subjects).
Very nice website once you get the hang of it. Only be critical enough to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. This also counts for ECCOnline. Only downside of Perfline is that some links do not work anymore.

CTSNET (The Cardiothoracic Surgery Network)
THE website for cardiothoracic surgery in Europe and further away. Extensive resource database with comments, expert techniques, videos, case reports, journals and books, innovation centers, industry forum and much, much more. It takes quite some of your time to go through the website and it changes (grows) everyday. So you can better subscribe to their extensive newsletter to keep you updated.
EBCP is a participating professional organization.
